Raymond Lawrence, New York Times Op-Ed Contributor, Comments on Faith-Based Medicine
Raymond Lawrence, CPSP General Secretary, was a Op-Ed Contributor to the New York Times with his article, Faith-Based Medicine.
Dr. Lawrence writes a very balanced and thoughtful point of view on the use of prayer in the medical contex when he writes in the following excerpts::
"RESPONSIBLE religious leaders will breathe a sigh of relief at the news that so-called intercessory prayer is medically ineffective....But if it could ever be persuasively demonstrated that such prayer "works," our religious institutions and meeting places would be degraded to a kind of commercial enterprise, like Burger King, where one expects to get what one pays for."Faith-Based Medicine is the New York Times' 3rd most emailed article from its website today. This represents a strong interest in the article. Obviously, we of the CPSP community are very proud of our General Secretary. He provides wise and articulate leadership not only within the CPSP community but also within the whole clinical pastoral field.
