Raymond Lawrence's article, The Politics of Tribulation: Sarah Palin and the Rapture was published September 20, 2008 in CounterPunch, a political newsletter. As usual, he applies his insightful theological acuity to examine Sara Palin's possible belief in the rapture and its potential implications if she were to ascend to the office of President of the United States. Dr. Lawrence writes:
... belief in the Rapture as an historic event toward which history is rapidly moving, is a belief with potentially catastrophic political implications. Do the American people want a believer in such a fantasy to hold in her hands the nuclear power to destroy civilization?
Given all that is being said and written during this presidential election season, it is refreshing, even if you disagree with Lawrence's point of view, to have someone providing a theological critique of current political issues. To read the full article, click here.
