The College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors will once again offer a joint regional conference. The theme of this fall's conference is Compassion: A Postmodern View featuring Robert C. Dykstra, M.Div., Ph.D.
Robert C. Dykstra is associate professor of pastoral theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned both the M.Div. and Ph.D. degrees. A native of Minnesota, he is a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and an ordained Presbyterian Minister. He served for a number of years as a minister, hospital chaplain and pastoral counselor. His academic interests include pastoral care and counseling, contemporary psychoanalytic theory and developmental psychology, pastoral preaching, and the integration of biblical and theological precepts with contemporary research in the human sciences. He is author of Counseling Troubled Youth (Westminster John Knox Press, 1997); Discovering a Sermon: Personal Pastoral Preaching (Chalice Press, 2001); Images of Pastoral Care: Classic Readings (Chalice Press, 2005); and Losers, Loners, and Rebels: The Spiritual Struggles of Boys (with Allan Hugh Cole Jr. and Donald Capps,) (Westminster John Knox Press, 2007). He and his wife Molly, also a Presbyterian Minister, and their daughters, Eleanor and Annie, live in Princeton, NJ.

I hope PR readers will consider this CPSP & AAPC conference more than a regional event only for those living in the area. Why? I can answer this in two words. Robert Dykstra.
The CPSP community was first introduced to Dr. Dykstra at the Columbus, Ohio 2005 CPSP Plenary when he was the keynote speaker. Who Shall We Be?, his address to the CPSP community, was published in the PR. I'm confident that many would join me in affirming that Robert Dykstra is a fresh, clear and deeply human voice in the clinical pastoral field. Regardless of where you live, make your plans to attend the conference.
Please contact Foy Richey, one of the coordinators of the event, for more information. Also, download the Conference Flyer for more details as well as for registration information.
