May our nation rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:
that all people are created equal.
May we live in a world where our children will not be judged by the
color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
May we live in a world where we realize that injustice anywhere is a
threat to justice everywhere; and that justice long delayed is
justice denied.
May we take up our nettlesome task to discover how to organize our
strength into compelling power.
May we all not be so tragically bound to the starless midnight of
racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can
never become reality.
May we realize that we must live together as brothers and sisters, or
we will perish together as fools.
May we rise up today with a greater readiness. May we stand with a
greater determination.
May we have the vision to go up to the mountaintop and see the
promised land, and be happy, not worrying about anything, our eyes
having seen your glory.
And may we believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will
have the final word.
O God, give us the strength to love.
Let it be so.
