An Art in Transition: Spiritual Counsel: The October 17 issue of The Christian Century carries a very provocative and useful article written by Rodney J. Hunter on pastoral care, entitled "An Art in Transition: Spiritual Counsel." Hunter explicates the problems and opportunities in the current pastoral care and counseling movement with a keen eye and good judgement. He is clear that the movement needs to recover its religious and theological origins while holding on to the usefulnessness of psychology and its contributions to pastoral skills.
I encourage members of the CPSP community to study the document and especially to use it in training courses. The document can provide a very useful stimulus for discussion and analysis of our present predicament and our search for direction for the future. -Raymond Lawrence
