The Ever-Present Others:

Applying Group Relations Learning
to improve Clinical Pastoral Care

NATIONAL CLINICAL TRAINING SEMINAR – WEST
San Damiano Retreat Center
Danville, California
14—16 October 2018

Concept:

The meeting of a chaplain and a patient or client traditionally has been viewed as a one-on-one encounter. In this seminar we will see the work of chaplains in a larger frame – in the group context where clinical pastoral care actually take place. Groups include, for example, family members and loved ones of patients or clients (who may be physically present or absent) and various others (for example, other staff members such as doctors, nurses, and social workers).

This seminar will include presentations and exercises by group relations leaders from Grex, the West Coast affiliate of the AK Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems. Participants are encouraged to bring cases as is the custom at NCTS. Some of these cases will be reviewed in small groups from a group relations perspective.
